“Dying”—my son’s testimony

In early 2024 my son David, though in his 20s, was diagnosed with liver failure (because of a genetic disease we did not know about) and had to deal with the prospect of death. He wrote a song, released just a few days ago, about his struggle, which he introduced in this way:

“I began writing this song a little over a year ago, when I’d discovered that my liver was failing and I would need to have a transplant in order to survive. Suddenly everything I believed in felt as if it was being truly tested, and I wrestled with the feelings of fear, as well as questions of “if I believed that God held me in His hands why was I fearing?” I finished writing the song a few weeks after a successful liver transplant, and I’m so grateful for the reminder that it’s ok to pour out our emotions to God, because He’s always listening. I wanted to finally share it today on the one year anniversary of my transplant. I hope you can find some encouragement from it.”

We saw God’s hand in his excellent medical team and also some unusual circumstances no one could have planned. The day after he was listed for a transplant, a match was found, and the day after that he had a new liver. This song shares his journey before that breakthrough, on the one-year anniversary of the gift of life in the donated and transplanted liver.
