In my forthcoming book on suffering, I note, “Based on concrete sources, Global Christian Relief reports that in 2024, nearly ten thousand (9,814) Nigerians were murdered because they were Christians.[i]” Possibly over 3 million Nigerians are displaced. A significant proportion of these are Christians displaced by jihad. Often displaced in camps with poor sanitation and malnourished children, they now face steeper cuts in international funding. Where is the global church?
My summers teaching in Nigeria’s Middle Belt exposed me to the situation already beginning to surface in the 1990s and tried to raise awareness in an article more than 20 years ago.
