Jesus taught in a synagogue in Capernaum (Mark 1:21; John 6:59). He also cast out a demon there (Mark 1:23-27), and Jairus may have been synagogue ruler of this synagogue. Meanwhile, most people outside Galilee never heard of Capernaum, much less its synagogue! But archaeology has identified the likely synagogue.
