How the IVP Bible Background Commentary came to be (2 mins)

My background commentary has now sold over half a million copies. Its beginnings, however, may have appeared less auspicious. It rested on a collection of what was originally 70,000 index cards of information. Its goal was to put years of cultural background–for every passage in the New Testament–at readers’ fingertips.
