OK, that title isn’t quite accurate (though “church” and “synagogue” both translate terms applied to the congregation of God’s people in the Pentateuch). But archaeologists have discovered not just a busy fish packaging industry (with plenty of contact with Capernaum and other small fishing centers), but also synagogues in Magdala. Maybe Jesus met Mary when preaching in one of those synagogues, but if not, it wasn’t a long walk from Magdala to Capernaum.
